The volunteers were out collecting many bags of fallen leaves from beside the 11th tee on Tuesday. Our thanks again for all the work they do. If you can spare a few hours on a Tuesday morning, please contact John Dornan.
Greens have been hand mown when conditions allowed - the 4th was looking fantastic earlier this week.
Work to drain wetter areas around the course is on-going. An example of this is the dew pond on the 2nd hole and the ditch on the 4th hole - this water is piped towards St Botolph's Brook where it can be pumped into the reservoir using our Abstraction licence.
Tee renovation work continues while the Purple course is in play. It was the 14th tee's turn on Wednesday.
The hawthorn bush near the 7th ditch has been cut down in order for the ditch to be piped and backfilled. This will enable an additional route to be created onto the 7th fairway further spreading wear during wet conditions.
General maintenance involving clearing ditch outlets, reviewing and altering traffic management routes as required plus leaf blowing and collection continue.

John Champ won the John Champ Veterans' Stableford at Colchester Golf Club on Monday.
If you want to win a golf competition, start your own. Not true in this case as John Champ has been The Hon. Sec. of the Vets' Section at Colchester for over 20 years. He presented this trophy for the old Christmas Stableford Competition in 2014 and the competition was renamed to honour his work in the section.
However, this time it was his expertise on the golf course and 39 points which claimed the plaudits of his fellow competitors. Playing off a handicap of 29 on a cold, wet and soggy day his winning score was one point clear.
Keeping mistakes to a minimum he steered his way around the course leaving the 69 strong field trailing in his wake, and his handicap to do the work.
Champ was just ahead of John Dornan (9) and three ahead of Stuart Reed (19) who took second and third places.
Dornan opened his round with a birdie and never scored more than a bogey along with nine pars. Good golf in the conditions.
Joe Clark (22) secured fourth place from Adrian Girling (10) both returning 35 points. As is normal for this competition it was topped off with a fine lunch and some explaining from Champ.
Mary Jardine took the laurels in the ladies 14-hole Stableford. Returning 25 points from her 30 handicap Jardine was two points clear of Jasmine Schwier (22) who took second place with Sue Earnshaw (29) in third after carding 22 points.
Three ladies scored 21 points to take the minor placings with Marilyn Free (32) leading them in after a countback from Annie Johnston (16) and Philippa Deman (16).
Additional tee times have been opened up due to the popularity of this event!
